Strengthening National Efforts: Military Police throws full support to the Ministry of Environment to Combat Natural Resource Crimes
ថ្ងៃ សុក្រ, 17 វិច្ឆិកា, 2023On November 17, 2023, a crucial meeting was held at the Office of the National Gendarmerie Command, with His Excellency Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, leading the session. Participants included key figures like His Excellency General Sao Sokha, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Chairman of the National Commission for the Prevention and Suppression of Natural Resource Crimes.
The meeting focused on examining the current crime situation and formulating effective countermeasures. Following discussions, mutual agreement was reached between the Ministry of Environment and the Royal Gendarmerie to establish standardized operating procedures (“SOP”) for preventing and suppressing natural resource crimes. This commitment extends to measures preserving vital elements such as forests, wildlife, and more.
The Royal Gendarmerie has prepared proactive measures to intervene upon request from the competent ministry and provincial capital authorities. This readiness is particularly crucial in situations where the intricacy of the crime hinders the specialized ministry or local authority from functioning due to a shortage of personnel or resources.
After discussions and consensus were reached regarding the adoption of a strong collaborative approach to prevent and suppress natural resource crimes, Minister Eang Sophalleth conducted an inspection alongside General Sao Sokha and colleagues. Together, they assessed the readiness of the Royal Gendarmerie force and the available equipment for interventions throughout the country.
